Hello ladies! You know about my passion and dedication to all things skincare, but today I’m going to take it a step further and be a bit more inclusive and talk about hair care – specifically scalp care! It’s skincare that is often forgotten since most of our scalps are covered with hair.

It shouldn’t really come as a surprise that taking care of our scalps is just as important as our skin, after all the scalp is an extension of our skin. A clean, healthy scalp promotes good blood flow, cell turnover, and hair growth. These days, we tend to focus on problems associated with the ends of our hair, split ends, dry tips… Ironically, hair care should actually start at the top with our scalps.

When your scalp is ignored, you can experience dryness, hair loss, itching, excessive oiliness, peeling, and dandruff. This usually happens when there’s a buildup of product around our hair follicles. It’s imperative to keep our scalps clean and healthy to keep these issues from occurring and also to keep our hair silky, hydrated and beautiful.

So how do we do this?

Scalp care mainly requires that we cleanse correctly, use scalp-specific products, and keep our hair moisturized. I’ve been using the Rooted Rituals Root Reboot Cooling & Strengthening Tonic to fully cleanse my scalp of product buildup and any sweat and oil I’ve accumulated throughout the day. This product is refreshing, smells amazing and really makes a difference.

Next, I spend a good 4-5 minutes massaging my scalp. Massage is the best way to promote blood circulation and hair growth. I like to use Rooted Rituals Root Rejuvenating Scalp Massager. This feels amazing and also acts as a physical exfoliator, fully cleansing and rejuvenating your scalp. Of course you can use your fingers in a firm circular motion, but this massager fully cleanses your scalp and again, feels so good! You deserve this act of self-care and self love to take this time to feel good, and the end results of better hair and a healthy scalp are an added bonus.

Here are a few more tips as a reminder:

  • Comb your hair gently and with a wide tooth comb after you wash.
  • Don’t take very hot showers, as they can dry out your hair and skin! If anything, take a cold rinse before you get out of the water. Rinsing your hair with cold water closes the cuticle and protects it.
  • Decrease the number of blow outs you receive but add an occasional deep clean at the salon.
  • Try to wash your scalp a minimum of 2-3 times a week.

That’s it! Feel free to leave any tips on how you keep your scalp clean, fresh and beautiful!
